Summer Solstice Walk: Trosley Country Park, North Downs Way & Coldrum Long BarrowJoin us this Summer Solstice to celebrate the longest day of the year💜
Join us for a special 7.5-mile walk starting in Vigo, following the North Downs Way, and visiting the ancient Coldrum Long Barrow on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
We will walk through stunning woodlands, take in breathtaking views across the North Downs, and follow a section of the Pilgrim’s Way, an ancient route historically used by travellers journeying to Canterbury.
Coldrum Long Barrow – A Sacred Site Through the Ages
Coldrum Long Barrow is a Neolithic burial chamber dating back over 5,000 years, making it one of the oldest known monuments in Kent. Unlike other long barrows that have collapsed over time, Coldrum retains much of its original structure and remains a place of spiritual significance. The site was used for burials and ceremonies by early communities, who aligned their structures with celestial events such as the solstice.
Today, modern-day Pagans, Druids, and nature worshippers gather here to mark the summer solstice, to celebrate the power of the sun at its highest point in the sky. With a special insight into Paganism, your guide will explain the significance of this site and surrounding countryside on this day.
The Significance of the Summer Solstice
The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This astronomical event has been observed for thousands of years by cultures worldwide, honouring the power of the sun, abundance of nature, and turning of the seasons.
Come and celebrate this special day with a walk steeped in history, nature, and the magic of the solstice. 🌞🌿
