Join us for the 3rd documentary in the series, "Celebrating the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway", at Whitstable Museum Thursday 18th September, at 7pm. Admission is free but donations would be greatly appreciated. Please book in advance as our previous documentary screening was fully booked.
For 195 years the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway has been celebrated. Initially on its opening on Monday 3rd May 1830 for its pioneering achievements, and subsequently on its closure on 29th November 1952. During eight reigns, from George IV to Elizabeth II, local people have thronged the streets to pay tribute to the railway, none more so than in the years since the closure of the branch line.
With skillful use of archive and vintage film, modern video, and photographs, this film recalls the numerous events that have taken place, both in Canterbury and Whitstable, to celebrate and commemorate an historically significant pioneering railway.

This film, the third in the series, re-captures the mood of each occasion. Drawing widely on fascinating film, taken in 1980, of twenty-seven different events that took place over a ten day period in early May.
