Just blocks from the Fitton Center stands the reminder of an odd idea about the nature of our planet. The Hollow Earth Monument pays tribute to 19th century Hamiltonian John Symmes Jr. and his theory that the world has an empty, inhabitable center. It's a bizarre idea with an equally strange story of how the monument got – and stayed – here.
