About this Event
Dive into LGBTQIA+ archives with Blossom LGBT CIC and the Surrey History Centre. This is the first of two FREE workshops on 'Celebrating our Past, Creating our Futures'.
Recognising that LGBTQ+ history has often been overlooked due to colonisation, anti-LGBT legislation, and historical attitudes, it is crucial to preserve and celebrate the legacy of our community. This first workshop will focus on Crime & Punishment, Surrey’s LGBTQ+ Support Groups and Legacy. Participants will have the opportunity to see archived materials and understand more about the archiving process of LGBTQIA+ history. Future workshop topics include historical LGBTQ+ research, individual archive legacies and LGBTQ+ heritage mapping.
It will be delivered by Collections Development Archivist, Di Stiff (she/her), and Heritage Learning and Communities Officer, Kate Jenner (she/her), from the Surrey History Centre, with support from Blossom LGBT CEO Oscar Hoyle (they/them), and Project Manager Shivani Dave (they/them).

About Blossom LGBT CIC:
Blossom LGBT CIC supports the amazing things that LGBTQ+ people can achieve when they are empowered to succeed without the fear of discrimination. It's our vision that together, we’ll create environments where LGBTQ+ young adults can succeed in all aspects of their lives. Our target audience is LGBTQ+ 16 to 30 years old based in South East England, and the people who live & work alongside them. Since our unofficial inception in 2018, we have become one of Surrey’s largest & most highly regarded LGBTQ+ community-led organisations.
About the Surrey History Centre:
Surrey History Centre collects and preserves the records of Surrey's past and present, documenting the story of the county and its people from the 12th century to the 21st century. Surrey Heritage holds a unique collection of records of historical importance. We work to make them publicly available at Surrey History Centre for everyone to use and enjoy, preserving and conserving these precious documents for future generations. They are carefully cleaned, dried and repaired (if necessary) before being catalogued, packaged in archive material, and stored safely in secure, environmentally controlled strongrooms.
