London Design Museum’s Exhibition,
“Blitz: the club that shaped the 80s”.
We are celebrating this on the actual opening day of this exhibition.
Inspired by: Bowie, Punk, Soul, Cinema, Cabaret.
Revolutionised: Fashion, Music, Design.
The Blitz club was the epicentre of fashion, music and design in the 1980s, though only running from 1979 to 1981. It spawned music careers for their house band, Spandau Ballet and others including Visage, Ultravox, Boy George, Marilyn, Sade, Haysi Fantayzee, Soft Cell, Princess Julia, and many more. It also launched careers for costume designer Michele Clapton (Game of Thrones), couture milliner Stephen Jones, influential fashion designer John Galliano and Australia’s own performance artist and designer known for his outrageous outfits and influential presence at the club, Leigh Bowery.
Tonight is a celebration for you, a person of a particular persuasion, intrinsically linked to the avant-garde. We welcome the peacocks, poseurs and protagonists whose manifesto is to set the future's course.
