✨Special event announcement✨Join us Friday, October 3rd from 6pm-7:30pm at Virginia Tech's Newman Library, Goodall Room (Multipurpose) for a special event celebrating LGBTQ+ Elders in Southwest Virginia. This event is co-sponsored by The Outwords Archive, a national free archive database focused on capturing the voices of LGBTQ+ elders. This past spring, Outwords recorded five local LGBTQ+ elder interviews, Erika Joyner, Dolly-Davis Dollberg, Jeff Mann, Father G, and Nancy Kelly, and next Friday, we are celebrating the release of their interviews!
The event will start with a welcome reception with light snacks provided by the Center for Rural Education (6:00-6:30). At 6:30pm the program will begin with a welcome by Outwords Executive Director, Mason Funk, followed by a short viewing of their interviews. Then we will have a panel discussion with a Q&A. The event will conclude at 7:30pm.
Registration for the event is FREE: https://forms.gle/Mhev4KBiXuLwFDb69
This event is supported by Virginia Humanities alongside Virginia Tech campus partners (The Department of History and Pride Center).
Since next week is Homecoming, please expect heavier traffic on your routes to campus. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]
Accessibility note: This room is on the first floor. There is an automatic door with no steps that leads straight onto the first floor. If you enter on another floor, you can take the elevator down. The room is equipped with multiple screens on each wall, so there is a lot of visibility. There will also be microphones to be used.
In the meantime, check out some of the amazing folks Outwords have connected with! https://theoutwordsarchive.org/interviews/
