Brandy Bouzek is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, works as a paraprofessional at George Washington High School with students that have disabilities or special needs, and has been a huge lover of sports all of her life (particularly the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and Iowa Hawkeyes). At only 31 years of age, Brandy was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare mutation of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), called FUS-ALS. Doctors at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics informed Brandy and her family that people affected by this specific type of ALS are typically between 25 and 40 years old, are only given 2 to 5 years of life expectancy after diagnosis, and that the disease is particularly more aggressive when it appears in younger people.
We are organizing a benefit for her on Saturday, the 6th of September, in an attempt to raise money for medical bills, future expenditures, and the comfort and care of Brandy. It will be hosted at CJ's Bar & Grill in the Czech Village area of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and will run from 11 am to 9 pm. As of now, the event will include a 50/50 raffle, shirts and can koozies for sale, and a silent auction that will run from 11am until 5pm. (As well as playing the Iowa vs. Iowa State football game on the TVs!)
In addition to the event, her brother, Nick Bouzek, is utilizing his Venmo for any monetary donations from people or businesses and will get the funds to Brandy. His Venmo username is @NickBouzek.
There will also be a pay-per-plate potluck style meal, which is $10 for adults and $5 for kids.
We hope to see you on the 6th, and in the mean time, please feel free to share the event. Any little bit helps! Thank you! ππ«Άπ€
