A talk about Sir William Hillary of Douglas who had the vision in 1824 for a service dedicated to saving lives at sea which was the beginnings of the RNLI, a service largely operated by volunteers which saves two lives every day and is funded by public donations. Peter was rescued by Douglas Lifeboat in May 1962 and has a very long connection with the Lifeboat service as his father Lewin Cain also had.
There will be a raffle (£1 a go) for a knitted handmade Lifeboat man with the proceeds to Douglas RNLI ?
7:30pm, Onchan Village Hall. Admission: members £2, non-members £3 including refreshments. Annual subscription £5.
