The Woman’s Club of Wisconsin is thrilled to present the next installment of our “Celebrated Chefs” series, where you can enjoy the opportunity to meet, learn about, and feast with the remarkable Chefs/Owners of Milwaukee-area restaurants!
Chef Karen Bell of Bavette is our featured Chef on January 30th. She and the Club’s Chef Jan Solbjerg have worked together to curate a menu that showcases her artistic vision and reflects the experience of dining at Bavette. Chef Bell will be our guest in enjoying the meal prepared based on her creative input. In a talk during dessert we will hear about her life, career journey, and the inspiration behind her cuisine and restaurant.
Karen Bell is a Milwaukee native with over 25 years of culinary experience around the world. In 2003 she headed for Madrid and dove into the unique gastronomic culture of Spain. With more than 6 years of experience in Madrid and Caracas, Venezuela, she moved back to Milwaukee and, in 2013, opened Bavette La Boucherie, a modern rendition of an old-time butcher shop and restaurant. Over the years, the butcher shop evolved into more of a restaurant and her move into a larger restaurant space two years ago solidified that transition. You’ll see the influences of Spain at her restaurant Bavette – in the choice of charcuterie, and in the emphasis on down to earth, uncomplicated dishes which reflect both seasonality and locale. Her changing menu incorporates the best of both the Spanish and International food cultures. Bell has been honored to be nominated for a James Beard Best Chef Award in the Midwest region five times.
