About Texas Independence Day (Texas Exes tradition)
In 1900, the Texas Exes adopted a resolution that whenever two Texas Exes meet on March 2, they should break bread together and pay tribute to the university that made their education possible.
March 2 commemorates the founding vision for The University of Texas — established through the Texas Constitution of 1876 as a “university of the first class.” Today, Texas Exes around the world gather to celebrate UT’s legacy, connect with alumni, highlight community impact, and support student scholarships. These events honor our alma mater and the power of higher education.
Join us as we celebrate, give back, and keep the tradition alive.
