We're thrilled to share that our Juneteenth celebration at The D.A. Dorsey House on Wednesday, June 19th, will be an all-day event from 1 PM to 8 PM! This is going to be an unforgettable celebration packed with activities and experiences for everyone.
- Food Galore: Enjoy mouth-watering dishes from Reeds Seafood and cool treats from Mr. Frosty305.
- Live DJ: Dance to the beats of DJ Mack, who will keep the energy high throughout the day.
- Art Activities: Dive into exciting art activities suitable for all ages, including a community art mural.
- Live Musical Performance: Don't miss the captivating live performance by the talented King Tetrus, who will be bringing his unique sound to our celebration.
The first half of the event will focus on our Keep The Kids Reading initiative, featuring:
- Story Time: Engaging story time sessions with children's authors Michael Woodward and Modelo Brown.
- Mobile Library: Explore the mobile library trailer brought to you by Bookleggers.
- Book Giveaways: Enjoy free book giveaways courtesy of Books For Free Miami Book Fair.
The second half of the event will transition into our Rhyme & Reason portion, which includes:
- Panel Discussion: An insightful panel discussion featuring our exhibiting artist Anthony Lumpkin, exploring topics such as creativity, culture, and community, with a special focus on banned books and censorship.
- Art Reveal: An exciting reveal of new artwork by Anthony Lumpkin.
- Live Drum Circle: Participate in a vibrant live drum circle.
- Live Podcast: Enjoy a live podcast by Fara Charles, offering unique insights and engaging conversations.
Throughout the day, our art exhibition, "On The Ban Wagon | The Power of The Pen," will be open to the public. This powerful exhibition sheds light on the ongoing struggle with banned books and censorship, offering a thought-provoking experience that challenges and inspires.
