For nearly half a century, 930 WFMD’s Christmas Cash for Kids has been a Frederick County tradition rooted in generosity and community spirit. What began in 1975, when a local DJ rallied the community to help one family in need, has grown into the county’s largest program providing toys and clothing to children who might otherwise go without.Every dollar raised goes directly to the cause—no overhead, no red tape—just holiday joy for local kids who need it most.
A Tradition of Giving
Year after year, local businesses, schools, and neighbors step up in partnership with WFMD and the Salvation Army to make Christmas morning brighter. From collection cans across the county to family-friendly fundraising events, Frederick shows up big for its kids. In 2024 alone, the program raised over $134,000, helping more than 1,300 children from over 600 families.
50 Years, A Special Celebration
Now, as WFMD celebrates its 50th year of Christmas Cash for Kids, we’re marking the milestone with something truly extraordinary—the unveiling of a brand-new artwork from Frederick’s own internationally acclaimed artist, Yemi Fagbohun.
Yemi’s murals and illustrations are recognized around the world, but his heart has always belonged to Frederick. His creativity, passion, and compassion make him the perfect artist to honor this incredible legacy.
This new piece of art will serve as a lasting tribute to the impact Christmas Cash for Kids has had on Frederick County for five decades.
