We hope you will join us for some fun and some dancing for this monthly meetup! This is a great way to get to know some of the regulars in the AFM community and learn how to ceili dance (a traditional Irish dance). We meet regularly every 2nd Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Ceili Club - promoting Irish culture through traditional dance and music is sponsored by Mullaney’s Harp & Fiddle Pub (at 24th & Penn Ave in the Strip District).
The dance lesson is Free and starts 7:30pm and dancing starts at 8pm.
The pub has live traditional Irish music and a dance caller/instructor - Liz Shovlin Grinko. She is a certified céili dance instructor, as sanctioned by An Coimisiun le Rince Gaelacha, The Irish Dancing Commission, based in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
MEET OUR GREETER
Jackie Schaefer, a member and new initiate in the AFM Community, has worked with the Ceili group for over a year now and is now a board member. She is very excited to share this dance with you and happy to host for the AFM Community for this fun social meetup.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The dance is categorized in 3 types:
-Those steps that are only a few simple steps repeated over and over and are easy for anyone to dance to.
-Those that are more steps but if you have a partner who is familiar with the dance they can easily lead you (no worries, you don't have to bring a partner!).
-Those that you should have some familiarity with to really enjoy dancing.
We hope to potentially continue this meetup monthly with community interest.
Hope to see you there!
