Kicking off our 65th season in Cedar Rapids, The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale is looking forward to its 2024-2025 season! Join us for all four of our mainstage concerts.First up, on Friday, November 8th at 7:00 pm, we present "Veterans, We Salute You" at Veterans Memorial Building. Featuring patriotic selections to honor our nation’s veterans, favorite American themes will be performed, including “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” with the Cedar Rapids Community Orchestra. Tickets are complimentary for all Veterans with ID.
The Chorale’s second Mainstage Concert, “Handel’s Messiah” Part 1 Sing-Along will be performed on Saturday, December 14th at 7:30 pm and also Sunday, December 15th at 2:30 pm, both at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The First Lutheran Church Chancel Choir will join in the performance as well as featured guest soloists.
The third Mainstage Concert will feature a Cedar Rapids debut of the groundbreaking piece by Craig Hella Johnson, “Considering Matthew Shepard” on Saturday, March 15th at 7:30 PM at First Lutheran Church. Premiering in 2016, this oratorio is dedicated to the life and legacy of Matthew Shepard, the 21-year-old Wyoming college student who was beaten and tortured because he was gay, explores musical themes of inclusion, diversity, acceptance and justice.
Finally, the fourth and final Mainstage concert of the season is entitled “Music That Touched Our Souls”. The music will include favorite choral pieces submitted by the Chorale’s members – including “Colors of the Wind” and music from Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” as well as others sure to delight all audience members and ages. It will be performed on Sunday, May 18th at 2:30 PM at First Lutheran Church.
