A guided architectural walking tour of downtown Cedar Rapids.Join the Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) for an architectural walking tour of downtown Cedar Rapids! Esteemed local historian Mark Stoffer Hunter will guide guests along a historic downtown route. The tour will begin near the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and continue west past the Iowa Theatre Building, Merchants National Bank, and other historic gems. After taking in views of the iconic Veterans Memorial Building and Linn County Courthouse, attendees will circle back up 3rd Ave SE to catch the Cedar Rapids Savings (Guaranty) Bank and historic 1915 Strand Theatre.
The tour will launch outside the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art at 424 3rd Ave SE. Street parking is free on Saturdays and additional free parking is available in the museum lot. Tickets are $20. Check-in will open at 9:30AM and the tour will begin promptly at 10:00AM, rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended.
A native of Cedar Rapids, Mark Stoffer Hunter holds a BA in Art History and has been guiding historic tours of his hometown for over 30 years. Now in his 44th year of documenting historic changes in Cedar Rapids by photo, Hunter also brings over 25 years of experience in local history education to his guided walks.
Proceeds from this event will help fund the Iowa Architectural Foundation's programming and our mission to increase the public’s awareness of the value of architecture to Iowa communities.
