As the Sun sets on an ever-heating planet, strange synthesizers converse in the distance, punctured by disco rhythms and interjected by saxophone growls, akin to a jukebox of divine sadistic temptations, oozing goth rock-esque melodies that forever haunt you… You have just been exposed to the groovy sonic onslaught of CSDM a.k.a. Celebrity Death Slot Machine, a collective based in Atlanta (GA) that features current and former members of alternative outfits: Material Girls, Neighbor Lady, Mothers and Rose Hotel.
Not A Band
What started as a carpe diem home-recording project for a duo in quarantine, quickly grew into a cast of friends from different disciplines and perspectives, building on a communal spirit of we’ll try everything once. Not A Band has developed a sound and a performance with no internal hierarchies where each of the six members brings forward ideas and contributions. Their music is playfully chaotic, energetic and in many ways experimental. They draw on various influences of music and performance, including new wave, post-punk, jazz, grunge, spoken word, free improvisation and sound installation.
