About this Event
Whether you are new to doula work or have years of experience, this evidence-based lactation workshop offers a thoughtful review of core knowledge alongside new insights to strengthen how you support feeding families. The content is inclusive, grounded in current best practices, and delivered with clear attention to doula scope and appropriate referral.
This training is taught by Natalie Borden, a doula and IBCLC, whose work centres on practical, compassionate, and evidence-informed lactation support. The session is hosted with the Calgary doula community in mind, and we are glad to welcome online participants as well.
This training will cover:
- Breast anatomy, hormones, and milk production
- How baby’s oral anatomy, reflexes, and latch influence feeding
- Why skin-to-skin matters for lactation and bonding
- The benefits of breastmilk and how supply is established
- Supportive feeding strategies and signs baby is getting enough
- Common lactation concerns and when referral is needed, with a clear focus on doula scope
This workshop is designed to build confidence, clarify boundaries, and deepen your ability to support families with compassion and skill - wherever you practice.
Light refreshments will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch for a short break.
4 CEU's are available for this course. (Doula Canada and DONA - currently pending).
Refunds are not available for this workshop. In the event of cancellation, credit toward a future lactation workshop with Natalie will be offered.
