TEACHER PROFILE
I am a qualified, 4 year trained Primary school teacher graduating with Honours . I have
programmed for and taught ceramics, mosaics, colour theory and painting to students from
stages 1 to 3, identified as demonstrating giftedness and talent in Visual Arts.
My 20+ years teaching experience has greatly enhanced my professional development as an
educator and has fostered a deep understanding of quality teaching.
I have a degree in Fine Art, completing 5 years of full-time study at The National Art
School, Sydney. I also attended the Ivan Englund Pottery School workshop in Sydney at that
time.
I am the current Membership Officer, a Workshop Member and a pottery teacher at CCPS.
I have my own kiln and have had much experience in glazing, firing and packing kilns to
achieve a quality result.
The aim of the hand building classes is to familiarize students with the feel of clay and
teach them how to make robust joins, whether pinching, coiling or using slabs as the process.
Students will create and complete at least one piece each week, whether it is functional or
sculptural. This may include items such as animal shapes, a vase, tea light, a cup, bowl, plate
or a lidded pot. Students will be shown how to alter the shape of their piece and to texture
the surface of the clay by using darts, sgraffito, a roller, natural and found objects,
stretching the clay and by adding layers of clay. How glazes can be used to highlight the
textures will also be discussed.
Students will create their pieces in the first six weeks of the course, leaving weeks 7 and 8
for glazing and discussing any items already completed.
Clay allocation:
6 kg of stoneware clay is included in the class cost, as well as all firing and glazing required for this amount.
When members have used their clay allocation for the term, if further clay is required, members will need to supply any further clay(in line with workshop requirements) and firing must be put through the members shelves with regular firing fees and limits applying.
Non-members are able to purchase an extra 2 .5 kg for $35 which includes glazing and firing based on members rates.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is plenty of on and off-street parking. However, we are located near several schools and when they have events, there can sometimes be difficulty finding a park close by. Please ensure you park legally to avoid a Council parking infringement.
What can I bring into the event?
Please refer to the list in your welcome email.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
If you have any queries, please contact the Education Manager via [email protected]
