The show picks up the story in 1969 with a changing world.
As Vietnam War protests swell and women everywhere demand equal pay for equal work, the ladies in the church basement kitchen face changes of their own.
From the matriarch to the mom-to-be, there women find strength in each other as they deal with the changes from below the House of God!
As always, you'll laugh until your side-dish hurts with their hilarious antics and
down-to-earth charm from within the church basement. This is most certainly true!
Like the original, the action all takes place in the basement of a Lutheran Church in Minnesota in the sixties.
Even if you’ve never spent any time in Minnesota, nor if you don’t know any Norwegian Lutherans. You certainly can recognized these church basement ladies. They could be cooking in any United Church basement in Jefferson City or the surrounding counties!
When all the Tupperware tumbles out of the cupboard, you know the frustration – it’s happened in every church basement; in fact, it’s probably happened in every household.
Original cast members are back from last year’s successful production. Carrie Peter again has the role of Mavis and will keep the audience laughing with her quirky stories about her husband’s accidents. She will also be the queen of physical comedy – climbing atop a kitchen chair, falling into the freezer. (Get your cameras ready! Its sure to be a YouTube video sensation!)
Becca Rose Bessette is delightful as the young woman who will tell her mother she’s moving back to the rural community as well as announcing that she is pregnant. Her presentation of the poignant song “Cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and cloves” is sure to make many eyes tear up.
Reprising their roles also this year are the extremely talented Maggie DeChant Eggen as Vivian and Julie Gragert as Karin.
Eggen’s deadpan humour is always brilliant and her comedic timing perfect. Just a look from her is hilarious.
Gragert will again contribute a beautiful singing voice and deliver a captivating performance that solidifies her place as a true church basement lady!
Ben Miller returns as the hapless Pastor Gunderson. He will have hung up his bunny suit and donned an Elvis routine that is sure to be a real crowd pleaser, not to give away to much! “Thank you, thank you very much!”
The church basement ladies take “Waste not, want not” to the extreme: Their slogan is “Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without”. I’m sure many in the audience heard their mothers’ voices!
It’s another enjoyable nostalgia trip, taking us back to those good old days. Book your tickets now, if you want to have some laughs while taking a journey back in time. We guarantee that this show will sell out again!!
