CCLI 2025 – On May 30, 2025, the California Conference on Library Instruction will convene at Cal State Monterey Bay.
About this Event

In our highly adaptive librarian roles, we are uniquely positioned to make the invisible more visible to students, faculty, and administration. We demystify hidden curriculum for students from different information privileges and backgrounds. We unpack and deconstruct the research process and make it accessible. Together, we explore the challenges inherent in emerging technologies, such as generative AI and algorithms. With the insights we draw from these vantage points, we are able to respond to and advocate for diverse needs and address these in the teaching environments we create, be they in person, online or through learning objects.

CCLI invites you to share your instructional philosophies, teaching interventions, and strategies that make the invisible processes or structures visible to students, faculty, and the higher education community and support their curiosity and ability.

The keynote speaker is Mario A. Ascencio, College Librarian & Managing Director for the ArtCenter Library in Pasadena, CA.

Mario’s journey working in libraries began as a teenager discovering the transformative power of libraries—an experience that shaped his commitment to expanding access to knowledge and fostering diverse, equitable learning environments. He has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as President of REFORMA (2007-08) and co-founding the REFORMA Academic Librarians Advancing Service (ALAS) Committee in 2023 to strengthen academic library services for Latinx students. A nationally recognized advocate for libraries, Mario has delivered keynote addresses, workshops, and lectures in Latin American and the Caribbean for the U.S. Department of State. His contributions have been widely recognized—he was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker in 2008 and is an alumnus of the 2016 UCLA Library Senior Fellows program and part of the 2007 ALA Emerging Leaders program.
