This play is about the life story of the late Gospel Singer, Mahalia Jackson who was born and raised in New Orleans. Her remarkable contralto voice gained her the title of, one of the greatest gospel singers who ever lived. (The Queen of Gospel) She performed to overflow audiences at annual concerts and at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She received numerous awards and accolades. She was born in 1911 and died in 1972.
Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script and the singing of 2-3 songs sung by Mahalia Jackson or Thomas A. Dorsey. Example: Negro Spirituals like - “Let Us Go Down To Jordon” - ”Didn’t It Rain” - Keep Your Hand On The Plow” - “Deep River” - “Elijah Rock” - Bring a CD with your music
