Join us Thursday, September 18, for networking and a discussion of recent trends in Catholic education locally, and hear the story behind the recent opening of one school with a new approach: St. James the Less Academy in Mukwonago. Presenters will be St. James the Less Pastor Fr. Jordan Berghouse and St. James the Less Academy Headmaster Dr. Grover Green.
We have all witnessed the trends: declining seats in the pews, consolidation of Catholic parishes, and Catholic school closings. But, wait! Recently in southeastern Wisconsin, new Catholic schools are opening, and construction on two new Catholic K-8 school buildings—the first in Milwaukee in decades—is moving forward. What’s going on? Hear what prompted the leaders of St. James the Less Academy to open for the 2024-25 school year after its predecessor, St. James School, closed 12 years ago. Launching with students in Pre-K through sixth grade and adding grade seven for 2025-26, the leaders of the Academy have a bold vision for the future. This is the first officially recognized school in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee with a focus on classical education utilizing the liberal arts model. It is also the only Catholic Montessori preschool.
Fr. Berghouse preciously served St. Monica in Whitefish Bay and St. Eugene in Fox Point. He received a B.A. in politics from Ave Maria University in 2012 and worked for a couple years in Washington, D.C. before joining the seminary in 2014. He is originally from North Prairie.
Dr. Green earned his bachelor of arts and master’s in Education from the University of St. Thomas and his doctorate degree in Education from St. Louis University. Formerly from Houston, Green served at an all-boys Catholic high school in Houston as a part-time administrator and full-time teacher.
