CALLING ALL TEEN CREATIVES! Find the inner artist in you while doing faith-based social justice. No experience necessary. All skill levels welcomed!
Youth ages 13-18 are invited for a day of prayer, community, learning, and making Catholic art for justice. The retreat includes presentations, personal journaling time, small group discussions, and an art activity facilitated by Cleveland-based artist, Chloe Becker (learn more about her below).
By attending, teens will learn about...
- The theme of the art show "New beginnings" and what it means through the lens of our Catholic faith
- The seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching
- How art can be a means to exercise our baptismal calling
- How Chloe started making Catholic art to combat the sin of racism
- The many ways to use Catholic art for justice
- Guiding tips for making art
The primary purpose of this retreat is to provide teens with the time, space, guidance, and inspiration to create a piece of art that they might want to submit for the New Beginnings art show in August. Therefore, by the end of the day, teens will have started a first draft version of their idea. Everyone who signs up will also receive their own personalized art kit with supplies they can take home to continue developing their artwork.
This retreat will also mark the beginning of the period of time during which we will accept art submissions for the art show in August. Submissions will be accepted from June 26th to July 23rd.

About Chloe Becker
Chloe Becker is an artist committed to creating Catholic art for racial justice. She graduated from Magnificat High School in 2020, is currently taking a gap year, and will be attending Harvard University in the fall of 2021. She is spending her time this year in Cleveland, Ohio as an intern at Ignatian Solidarity Network and doing lots of painting. In 2019, she painted a mural at her high school to strengthen the Catholic Church’s voice against racism, which gained attention over social media and was published in an article in America Magazine. She spoke at the 2019 Ignatian Family Teach-in for Justice, and has had her writing published by ISN.
