Explore the world of mono-printing, a unique form of printmaking that creates a limited number of images, resulting in one of a kind creations. Students will learn mono printing using Gelli Plates, This is a hands on class where we apply acrylic paint on the plate, make impressions in the paint with various objects such as stamps, stencils, natural materials with textures like leaves and feathers and found objects such as lace, string, rubber bands and even bottle caps. The possiblities are endless.
The gel plate looks and feels like gelatin, but is durable, reusable and stores at room temperature. The gratification of printing with these plates is immediate and the prints are great. Mono-printing with a gel plate is a great way to create prints both simple and elaborate with paint, paper and a few tools. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The more you print the more variety, depth and interest you create as you become more confident in the process. You don’t need expensive paints or tools. Acrylic craft paints and found objects make the most interesting prints. Papers used can be unwaxed parchment, colored or white card stock, lightweight watercolor paper, old music sheets, pages from old books or even cards and envelopes. These papers can be a finished framed print, scrapbook project or used for collage work.
