Join the West Baton Rouge Museum on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 2 PM in welcoming Dr. Catharine Savage Brosman for a poetry reading and book signing as she reads from her latest work, Metates and Other Poems. This new publication was released by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press in September 2025.Metates is a book of poetic landscapes from Virginia and Florida westward to west Texas, Colorado, Arizona, and Hawaii. Urban settings similarly have their place, with examples from Paris and New Orleans. More broadly, the book is about what is given to us in the way of scenes, circumstances, and bodies, and our connections to all that. Landscapes and other settings are not inert; they are what we attempt to make of them. Metates is, therefore, about us and our responses to what we encounter.
Catharine Savage Brosman is an American poet, essayist, writer of short fiction, literary historian of both French and American literature, and professor emerita of French at Tulane University. Dr. Brosman will also be conducting stops along her book tour in Baton Rouge at the Louisiana Book Festival on November 1st and in Lafayette at the Center for Louisiana Studies on November 3rd.
This FREE event is open to the public.
