Catbird Jubilee is an acoustic duo featuring Rennie Chapman on guitar and harmonica and Sherrill Farkas on fiddle. Three years ago, a mutual friend noticed their similar musical styles and love of singing in harmony and introduced them, and they now delight in performing an eclectic mix of folk, blues, swing tunes, country, oldies, and whatever else tickles their fancy. From Benny Goodman to Hank Williams, Ian and Sylvia, the Everly Brothers, Sam Cooke, George Gershwin, The Beatles, and Van Morrison, they make the tunes their own, blending guitar, fiddle, and harp with their voices (
).
Rennie Chapman grew up making music with his multi-talented family in the living room - singing and playing piano, guitar, harmonica, drums, and autoharp. After graduation he hitchhiked to Alaska, living there and performing at clubs, restaurants and festivals, and recording a vinyl album of his original Alaskan folk songs. In 1983 Rennie traveled around the world with his wife, doing shows in Europe, Australia, and Asia along the way, and since then has appeared over the years in many local venues, both solo and most recently with the Howling Dogs.
Sherrill Owen Farkas has been playing, singing, directing, and teaching music in one way or another her whole life but became serious about fiddling about 15 years ago. She has played with many groups including Minstrel & Company, The Coracles Irish Band, Band of Friends, Hot Strings Café, Honkytonk Moon, and Crows in the Meadow – and feels honored to have been included in various CDs recorded by friends.
