The Hannibal Arts Council will welcome Edwin Aybar, member of the Hannibal-LaGrange University music faculty, as the featured performer for its next Casual Classics concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main Street. Aybar will perform solo works by Bach, Liszt, and Prokofieff on the Kawai grand piano graciously on loan to HAC from the family of Jason Dugger. The Casual Classics series brings classical music into a comfortable, community-oriented setting—offering audiences an inviting alternative to the formality of traditional concert halls. The Hannibal Arts Council’s intimate space creates a warm, personal listening experience ideal for devoted classical music lovers as well as those attending their very first classically based performance.
Aybar holds a doctorate in music from North Dakota State University and brings extensive experience as both an educator and performer. He also holds graduate degrees in music from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of South Dakota. Beyond his classical training, Aybar has explored a broad range of artistic interests. While pursuing his music studies, he developed a passion for Latin dance, which he has taught for more than 20 years in both private studios and university settings. A native of Puerto Rico who moved to Minnesota at age 13, he has long been interested in the intersections of music, communication, and culture. He views the arts as essential to both personal flourishing and the vitality of a community.
The performance is free and open to the public. No advance tickets or reservations are required.
This Casual Classics concert is presented in partnership with the Hannibal Arts Council, the Hannibal Concert Association, and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
