This is a scenic circular around some quaint Cotswold villages in the Castle Combe area of Wiltshire, including North Wraxall and Ford.We will also take some time out to explore the gardens and 'waterfalls' of the beautiful Manor House.Tickets for this event cost £15.00. Some interesting facts about Castle Combe which is often described as the 'prettiest village in England' -
1. A timeless village
Castle Combe, in Wiltshire’s Cotswolds, is famously unspoiled — there are no streetlights, satellite dishes, or modern signs in the village center, giving it a frozen-in-time feel.
2. No actual castle remains
Despite the name, the original castle from the 12th century is long gone. It once belonged to the Normans and overlooked the village from a nearby hill.
3. A racing connection
The Castle Combe Circuit, just outside the village, is one of the UK’s longest-running motor racing tracks, first used in 1950.
4. Hollywood loves it
Its postcard-perfect streets have been filming locations for Stardust (2007), War Horse (2011), Doctor Dolittle (1967), and even some Downton Abbey scenes.
5. A village of honey-colored stone
Like much of the Cotswolds, the buildings are made from local limestone, giving the whole village its warm golden glow.
Please bring enough food and water to sustain you, we will have a break half way round.
Dress accordingly for the weather, we do cross a few potentially muddy fields.
We have a few nice pubs to choose from for a post hike pint, either in Castle Combe itself or the lovely White Heart in Ford.
