Witness the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States by candlelight! 🕯️The future of Spanish Saint Augustine was in question during 1740. British forces from Georgia led by General James Oglethorpe laid siege to the city. Citizens – terrified about the possibility of losing their homes – clung to the hope that the Spanish forces would strike a blow from the Castillo that would send the English invaders away.
On the evening of Friday, December 6, 2024, prepare to be transported back in time to an evening before a Spanish counterattack! 💥 Visitors will be guided around the Castillo de San Marcos only by the light of lanterns. Rangers and volunteers in 18th century period clothing will tell the stories of St. Augustine on the brink of its destiny.
