Join our intensive workshop in Casino – the energetic and elegant partner dance from Cuba!
What is Casino?
Casino is a Cuban partner dance that emerged in the 1950s, strongly influenced by son and other Afro-Cuban dances. Originally danced in a circle (rueda), it later developed into a popular partner dance as well.
One of the core principles of Casino is the circular movement, where partners rotate around each other while weaving their arms and bodies into playful and intricate patterns. The basic steps include the well-known guapea, and Casino can be danced both a tiempo and contra tiempo.
Abroad, Casino is often marketed as “Cuban salsa,” but in Cuba it is first and foremost a social dance – enjoyed at clubs and dance halls with joy, rhythm, and community.
Why learn Casino?
The basic technique of Casino differs from what is usually taught in salsa, giving dancers a unique flow and elegance.
