The CASI Level 1 course is an introductory course, designed to give successful candidates the skills necessary to begin their role as a new instructor in the industry. Beginner teaching methods, understanding of basic snowboard technique, as well as lesson planning and effective communication skills will be addressed.
Candidates will receive coaching on their snowboarding, as well as feedback on their teaching skills, with the goal of reaching the Level 1 standard in both of these areas. They will also receive suggestions and strategies for long-term development. The successful candidate is certified to teach beginner snowboarders up to the Novice Turn level.
Am I Ready?
The Level 1 Instructor standards require you to pass both riding and teaching evaluations. To prepare for success, candidates should enjoy working with people, love snowboarding, and be curious about how people learn. Answer Yes or No to the following questions to evaluate your readiness for the Level 1 Instructor Course:
- Are you a confident intermediate-level rider who can consistently link turns with control on a variety of blue and green slopes?
- Do you enjoy helping others learn and improve?
- Do you understand that the Level 1 course is a three-day,
ongoing assessment?
- Are you comfortable speaking in front of a small group and giving basic explanations?
- Have you reviewed the Level 1 Course Guide?
- Have you spent time observing beginner lessons or assisting in a teaching setting?
- Have you had a lesson or received feedback from a current CASI Level 1 Evaluator? Not mandatory, but can be helpful.
*If you answered β€œYes” to most or all of these, you’re likely ready to benefit fully from the Level 1 Instructor Course.
Next Steps:
This certification is a pre-requisite for the CASI Level 2 Instructor certification, as well as the Park Instructor course.
