Casey Street Projects (CSP) will serve the local community via arts and sustainability focused programming including film screenings, exhibitions, skill-share workshops, and education in the downtown core of St. John’s. First and foremost, our vision is to create a space that is welcoming to all members of our community to enjoy and take advantage of. For this purpose, CSP will purchase and restore the historic church building at 146 Casey Street. The organization will operate as a Community Land Trust, and be incorporated as a Non-Profit entity.
The main worship hall will be converted into flexible event and work space suitable for film screenings, dance, music, and theatre rehearsals, meetings, social gatherings, and live performance. CSP will run its own regular programming in this space and make it accessible to community partner organizations and arts festivals on a regular basis. There is a demonstrated need among the film, live performance (theatre, music & dance), and visual arts communities for more space at this scale for practice and presentation, and we hope to fill that need.
On the lower level, the centre will include a dedicated co-working space with weekly daytime hours equitably available to all members of the community. During evening hours and weekends, this space will host educational programming, skill-share workshops, and other similar services operated by CSP and partner organizations. We are committed to partnering with other local nonprofits to integrate programming in areas of arts, sustainability and wellness.
