About the TangoBraders:
The TangoBraders were born from an unexpected coincidence. In the summer of 2024, on the streets of Berlin, Mauricio Lago and Ignacio Oroná, two musicians from Buenos Aires, crossed paths by chance.
Within a few days, they were already playing together at Berlin
milongas, kicking off a collaboration, that quickly took them to stages in both Germany and Buenos Aires, where they continued performing throughout the rest of the year.
Their proposal is clear: to bring traditional, danceable tango closer to people—with renewed energy.
They’re inspired by the warm and slightly wild spirit of the Blues Brothers, those characters created by Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi in 1980 who, though rooted in blues, aren’t so far from tango as it might seem.
Since then, the TangoBraders have been traveling to milongas around the world, sharing tangos, waltzes, and milongas with musicians and audiences across all latitudes.
Wherever there’s a dance floor, there’s a place to join the journey.
About The Musicians:
Mauricio Lago
Mauricio Lago was born in Ingeniero Maschwitz, Province of Buenos Aires. He studied music at the “Juan José Castro” Provincial Conservatory in La Lucila and at the “Carlos López Buchardo” National Conservatory of Music (now the Department of Musical and Sonic Arts at the National University of the Arts).
He is a disciple of maestros Jorge Labanca and Hugo Zamora, two major figures in Argentine guitar. He studied chamber music, harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, and analysis with maestros such as Oscar Piluso, Ofelia Carvajal, Pedro Chiambaretta, Aníbal Gluzman, Julio García Cánepa, and Elizabeth Ramos Espejo, among others.
As a soloist or member of various ensembles, he has performed on radio, television, and in halls and theaters in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany,
Austria, Belgium, and Ireland.
Notable performances include concerts at the Palace of Arts and Dance in Buenos Aires; Sparkassenplatz in Innsbruck; artBase in Brussels; Roter Salon in Berlin; Aquajazz in Córdoba;
Casa Machuqa in Barcelona; and the La Tapaty Festival on Easter Island, among others.
He has worked with contemporary music composers Ezequiel Benencio Rotundo and Alberto Alonso; founded the tango duo "Gordo Pituco"; founded the folk-rooted group "Canto al Agua";
accompanied the renowned tango singer Nelson Mendi; played guitarrón in the tango group "Las Guitarras del Río"; and briefly served as director of the Contemporary Music Orchestra of
the ensemble “Diéz y Cuarto Diéz y Media”
.
He recorded a solo album, Del Ombú al Empedrado, which offers a musical journey through Buenos Aires Province, featuring both rural and urban genres like folk styles, tangos, and milongas—resulting from deep research on local traditions.
He currently lives in Merlo, San Luis, Argentina, and works as a guitar, ear training, and music technique teacher. He performs as a classical and popular guitar concert artist, singer, and folk
musician.
Ignacio Oroná
Born in San Isidro, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina in 1982 into a not-so-musical but very music-loving family. He began studying bandoneón at age 16 under the guidance of versatile
artist Tomi Lebrero. He studied harmony and counterpoint with maestro Julián Graciano, arranging with Fabián Bertero, and conducting with maestro Darío Ingignoli.
A graduate of the “Argentino Galván” Tango Academy Conservatory, Ignacio founded the Quinteto Timotteo, with whom he recorded two albums and toured countries such as Uruguay, Spain, England, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Turkey.
As a composer, he wrote and premiered the “Concerto for 5 Tango Players and Symphony Orchestra, ”which debuted with the Orquesta Juvenil San Martín conducted by maestro
Armando Celán. He later performed it with the Facultad de Medicina UBA (conducted by Darío Ingignoli) and again with the San Martín Orchestra conducted by Mtro. Daniel Batista.
He also composed the “Concerto Grosso” for 5 Tango Players and String Orchestra, premiered with a specially assembled string orchestra under Mtro. Darío Ingignoli’s baton.
In 2022, he founded the trio Izcunigo with the eminent pianist Leonardo Marconi. They performed at various concerts and festivals and released an album, Delta, that same year, featuring original compositions and bold modern arrangements of traditional tangos.
In addition to playing the bandoneón, Ignacio also timidly but ambitiously pursues orchestral conducting. In his spare time, he plays the viola.
