Discover the fun of creating your own printed fabrics! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to design, carve, ink, and print your own blocks with confidence. Using simple, affordable tools and soft rubber blocks that carve easily, you’ll build skills that last a lifetime. You’ll work with high-quality, water-based textile pigments that become permanent after heat setting, and by the end of the class, you’ll have a collection of your hand-carved blocks, printed fabrics, and detailed instructions to continue printing at home. This workshop is centered around printing repeat patterns on yardage. You’ll use your carved block to create a repeat across larger pieces of fabric, exploring how the edges of your block can serve as a self-registering guide for continuous printing. Jeanne will guide you in honoring the natural edges of your block, embracing the authentic, hand-crafted look of block-printed fabric.
No prior experience is necessary. (Please note: sharp tools will be used to carve the blocks.)
