-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Winter Sowing Demonstration – Get a jump on spring. Winter sowing is a fun, easy and inexpensive way to start seeds outside for the gardening season. Many types of seeds require Wet Cold Stratification, meaning they need cold temperatures and moist conditions to aid in breaking dormancy and beginning germination, which Winter Sowing provides. This method is good for perennials, vegetables, herbs, and hardy annuals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extending the Garden Season - Extend your gardening season and food production into the fall in Carroll County, MD! Some vegetables actually taste sweeter after the first frost. This is called ‘winter sweetening’ as the plant converts starches to sugars in cooler temperatures. Learn the what, when and how of fall gardening.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everything You Wanted to Know about Garlic – It’s almost the perfect time to plant garlic! Learn about planting requirements, growing and care, harvesting, and storage and preservation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cover Crops – What, When, Why to Grow Cover Crops – We know that taking care of our soil is of utmost importance for successful gardening. Soil is active year-round so let’s keep it working. Cover crops prevent soil erosion, suppress weeds, maintain soil moisture, and much more!
