About this Event

Ventura Land Trust's Environmental Speaker Series presents: Carrizo Plain: Where the Mountains Meet the Grasslands

Chuck Graham preaches patience when it comes to time spent on the Carrizo Plain. It's about slowing down, watching, and listening. There are more endangered species in the Carrizo Plain than anywhere else in the world, yet sometimes it requires sitting in one spot and scanning with binoculars just to catch a glimpse of its incredible wildlife. Chuck will take us on a journey through the Carrizo Plain and all it has to offer, including brilliant wildflowers, American badgers, long-tailed weasels, kit foxes, giant kangaroo rats, pronghorn antelope, tule elk, raptors, and blunt-nosed leopard lizards. Learn about the wildlife, weather, and unique landscape of these grasslands from Chuck on his many backpacking adventures from the coast to the Carrizo Plains.

About the Speaker:

He has written about and photographed those semi-arid grasslands since 2006. His stories and photographs have appeared in a variety of publications, including Backpacker, Men's Journal, National Geographic, BBC Wildlife Magazine, The Surfer's Journal, High Country News, Outdoor California, Westways, Natural History, and he writes the monthly "Unpredictable Wilderness" in the Coastal View News.
