Yuwi country spans a diverse area, including coastal and inland regions around Mackay. The boundaries are generally defined as:
North: The O'Connell River.
South: Cape Palmerston.
West: Inland to the base of the Connors and Clark Ranges.
East: The sea and coastal waters off the mainland.
The city of Mackay is located within the heart of the traditional Yuwi lands. The term "Yuwibara" translates to "people of Yuwi country".
