Carolyn Shapiro is an old-time banjo player and songwriter from Upstate New York whose music feels like a warm, home-cooked meal for the spirit. Rooted in traditional Appalachian style yet boldly original, her songs weave together sultry nuance, old-time grit, and thoughtful storytelling. The result is music that sounds both timeless and newly unearthed—familiar enough to feel like home, yet fresh enough to stir something deep within.

Though she once planned on a career in law, everything changed when she picked up a banjo in college. Immersed in the folk community from that moment forward, she quickly discovered a calling she hadn’t known she was missing. Her 2022 debut album earned her the title of Folk Artist of the Year for New York’s Capital Region, and her 2024 sophomore album, Take It Easy—recorded live with her band—captures the warmth, camaraderie, and spontaneous musical magic that define her sound.
