Marjorie Johnston, Music Director"Members of our Sanctuary Choir and Handbell Choir have been rehearsing since September for our annual service that celebrates the coming of Christ. We are committed to offering Advent and Christmas anthems in a wide range of musical styles: classic, contemporary, 20th century, even jazz, with two by Alabama native and a favorite at First Presbyterian - K. Lee Scott. Organist Jason Pedeaux always prepares fabulous organ voluntaries for this service, and we will incorporate flute and French horn, as well.
As we sing, we gratefully remember Shelley Jones, who was dedicated to serving as lector at Carols by Candlelight for many years. Prayerful music is paired with sacred poetry that brings thought-provoking perspective, setting this service apart from other excellent Christmas concert options in Tuscaloosa.
There’s nothing more beautiful than our Sanctuary decorated for Christmas and illuminated by candlelight. We’ll need you there to sing along on beloved hymns of the season, filling the space with joy! The service is open to the community, so please mark your calendars and bring guests."
