Join us for a community conversation with Claire Ave’Lallemant, who will share insights on how filmmakers and media professionals thoughtfully navigate sensitive themes such as sexual trauma, addiction, the loss of a child, shame, identity and belonging, and non-visible disabilities. Drawing on practices within the film industry, the presentation will examine approaches that center care, honor the full humanity of those represented on screen, and uphold the dignity of individuals working both in front of and behind the camera..Claire Ave’Lallemant (she/her) is a Charlotte-based queer documentary editor who chose to forgo the traditional college path in favor of a grassroots, hands-on education, beginning as an assistant editor on Memories of a Penitent Heart (POV). She discovered an affinity for shaping personal narratives through a blend of intimate storytelling and bold editorial choices, and went on to become a Karen Schmeer Film Editing fellow and Sundance Institute Documentary Edit Residency Artist recognized for “finding new language to express personal truths.” Her credits include features such as Flipside (Toronto) and Drowning in Silence (Santa Barbara), series such as Choir (Disney+, IDA Best Limited Series nominee) and The Pharmacist (Netflix), and shorts Translators (Tribeca X, Best Short award) and Final Finishers (ESPN+).
