Carnival of Souls is an independently made film from 1962. It exists because Herk Harvey, who made educational and industrial films, passed the abandoned Saltair Pavilion in Utah, and decided that a movie needed to end there. The story begins in Lawrence, Kansas. Mary Henry has been hired as the organist for a church in Salt Lake City. But as she travels to her new job and navigates a new city, there are some things that won't leave her. A quiet and foreboding film, Carnival of Souls has been described as a kind of Twilight Zone episode.
For this show, Modern Robot has written a new film score for the film and will be performing it live. The ensemble is Ben Singer on Hammond organ and Joe Dowdy on saxophone.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
