Vid. Sri. Narasimha Kikkeri
Inspired and encouraged by his parents, Smt. Sathyavathi and Sri K.N. Rajarao, Narasimha Kikkeri began his violin training in Carnatic music at an early age. His gurus include Vid. Sri Srinivasa Murthy, Vid. Sri Mysore S. Mahadevappa, and Vid. Sri Govindaswamy, a disciple of Vid. Smt. Lalgudi Rajalakshmi, belonging to the Lalgudi Shishya Parampara.
Narasimha gave his debut concert at the age of 13 and has been performing ever since. Over the years, he has been a frequent performer on All India Radio and TV stations and has represented India at the Festival of India during international music festivals in the U.K. and the former USSR. He has performed at several leading sabhas and cities in India and the USA, including Gayana Samaj (Bangalore), Nada Brahma, Jaganmohan Palace, and the world-renowned Mysore Dasara Festival. In the USA, his performances include the Cleveland Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana and the Lotus Festival in Bloomington, Indiana.
Narasimha has frequently performed solo concerts at several leading universities, including Indiana University Bloomington, University of California Berkeley, Boston University, Cornell, Purdue, Oxford, University of Miami, Cincinnati Conservatory, University of Oklahoma Norman, Mary Baldwin University, and the University of North Texas (UNT), to name a few.
He has also conducted music workshops at reputed fine arts conservatories and universities, including Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Cincinnati.
Narasimha has accompanied leading Indian artists such as Sangita Kalanidhi Sri T.N. Sheshagopalan, Dr. T. Viswanathan, Dr. Chitti Babu, Sangita Kalanidhi Sri Chitravina N. Ravikiran, Sangita Kalanidhi Trichur V. Ramachandran, and Sangita Kalanidhi R.K. Srikantan. He was blessed to do a solo performance with Sangita Kalanidhi Sri Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman. Additionally, he has had the great fortune of accompanying legendary Bharatanatyam artist Padmabhushan Sri C.V. Chandrashekar, and has accompanied Hindustani singer Rashid Khan during a US tour, along with CD releases.
In addition, Narasimha has performed several fusion concerts with leading Jazz and drum players such as Rick VanMatre and Glen Velez. He is adept at playing with Western and Jazz musicians and has performed at several universities.
A very sought-after violinist based out of Dallas, Narasimha is a devotee of Dattaguru Peetam and, by the blessings of Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji, conducts violin classes regularly at the Frisco Hanuman Temple. Several students are learning under his tutelage at his Swara School of Music.
Mridangam - Vid. Sri. Poovalur Sriji
Poovalur Sriji, a prolific composer, performer, and educator, is an ‘A’ top-grade artist recognized by All India Radio. He studied South Indian classical music under the guidance of his father, P.A. Venkataraman.
Sriji has composed several pieces portraying South Indian musical idioms, particularly for teaching Indian music to non-Indian instruments. He has received numerous awards from leading institutions, and the album Tabula Rasa, where he composed and performed with Béla Fleck, was nominated for a Grammy.
Sriji is the founder and director of SNEW, the South Indian Cross-Cultural Ensemble, and “The Bridge” ensembles. He is currently a faculty member at the University of North Texas and has also taught at the California Institute of the Arts and San Diego State University.
