1. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Serenade for String Orchestra in C major, Op. 48
2. Georges Bizet - Rodion Shchedrin, Carmen Suite for String Orchestra and Percussion
Opening the concert is Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for String Orchestra, one of the most beloved and enduring works written for string ensemble. The piece combines lyrical beauty, formal clarity, and emotional depth characteristic of Tchaikovsky’s musical language, while demanding refined ensemble balance and a high level of structural control from the orchestra.
The program concludes with Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite, arranged from Bizet’s opera Carmen for string orchestra and percussion. With its dramatic intensity, and vivid rhythmic character, the work reimagines the familiar world of Carmen through a modern lens, presenting significant technical and expressive challenges for each instrumental group.
In this program, the dialogue between two contrasting musical languages emerges clearly: One lyrical, coherent, and introspective - One dramatic, energetic, and highly contrasted. The concert is shaped as a continuous listening journey, inviting audiences to experience the full spectrum of color, form, and vitality of symphonic music within the HCMC Conservatory Concert Hall - The best acoustic hall in Vietnam.
