Carmen McRae was one of the most influential Jazz vocalists of the 20th century. She had a prolific recording and performing career spanning 6 decades and although she had more modest success than her peers, Billie, Ella and Sarah, she was widely considered their artistic equal by the Jazz world. Carmen could be opinionated, tough and outspoken, she had very high music standards and would not suffer fools gladly ! She could deliver lyrics like few others, taking the listener with her into the story of the music, widely regarded as the singers singer.
