Free Press Indiana is facilitating investments in journalism outlets around the state and fostering collaboration to amplify local journalism for all Hoosiers, especially underserved communities.In December 2023, they launched their first newsroom, Mirror Indy, an innovative, community-focused structure that works directly with residents to report on and elevate voices and stories from their own communities in addition to providing much-needed accountability and service journalism across critical topics.
Mirror Indy is committed to building a stronger Indianapolis and to providing community-based journalism that informs and empowers all to shape our city for the better.
Carley Lanich and Claire Rafford are assigned to the education beat.
Carley, who focuses on K-12, spent several years covering both K-12 and higher education for The Times of Northwest Indiana and The South Bend Tribune, and helped Inside INdiana Business launch a business and development newsletter in northern Indiana. An IU grad, she loves to read, catch up with friends over brunch and cheer on the Hoosiers.
Claire, who focuses on higher education, previously covered business, development and housing for IndyStar and interned at The Arizona Republic and POLITICO. She loves running, climbing, swimming, reading and hanging out with other people’s dogs, and graduated from Notre Dame.
