About this Event
About the retreat
We will explore how insight meditation, together with some of the themes from Joanna Macy's "Work that Reconnects", can support our hearts to care in challenging times.
This retreat is suitable for beginners and more experienced meditators. There will be periods of guided solitary sitting/stillness practice with an invitation, if you wish, to extend this into interpersonal practice in pairs to build our practice in relationship with others. There will also be some periods of mindful movement practice, and walking practice outside in the grounds. The day will be held, in the main, in companionable silence.
About the teacher
Julia Wallond has been meditating regularly since 2005, mainly with teachers at Gaia House. She trained as an MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) teacher with Exeter University in 2011, and later as a Community Dharma Leader with Gaia house. In this time she supported Bristol Insight to develop and become a charity. More recently she completed her Dharma teacher training with Bodhi College. She currently lives in Machynlleth, west Wales, where she combines work in health care with teaching in a local community meditation group. She enjoys exploring Dharma in everyday life, connecting with the natural world, and exploring engagement with the challenges of our times, socially and environmentally.

Booking
We request that people book places for themselves. If you are booking for yourself and somebody else you must make a separate booking for each person, with an email address for each.
Dana
Dana can be translated as cultivating generosity or giving. The teachers who lead our retreats receive their travel costs and ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses but do not receive any payment for their teaching. However they are happy to receive voluntary contributions from participants in the events they lead. These offerings are traditionally called dana. Most of our teachers depend on dana for most or all of their livelihood.
Our teachers are following an ancient tradition, offering teachings freely just as they received them freely from a previous generation of teachers. In this way the dharma (the teachings of the Buddhist tradition) is not made an object of commerce, and the relationship between teacher and student is based upon trust, freedom, and mutual generosity.
If you attend one of our events and appreciate what the teacher has offered, we warmly invite you to make whatever contribution you feel appropriate. If you do so, you will be making a vital contribution to their livelihood and helping them to continue teaching on this generous basis, particularly in situations where people cannot afford to pay anything.
Dana can be offered to the teacher, Julia, during and after the retreat
