The Farm Alliance of Baltimore and the National Wildlife Federation have teamed up to create a series titled Pollinators & Produce for urban farmers, community gardeners, and backyard growers in and around Baltimore. Join us as continue the series with Caring for Pollinator Gardens, facilitated by Sarah D'Adamo of Baltimore Green Space!
About the Workshop
Consistent care and maintenance are vital to the long term success of any pollinator garden. This workshop will focus on how to maintain your garden throughout the year, in the growing season and beyond. Topics covered will include dealing with W**d pressure, managing green waste, and reckoning with landscape considerations in urban settings. Participants will have the opportunity to take home native seed packets for some of the top pollinator species in Baltimore!
About the Speaker
As the Preservation Manager at Baltimore Green Space, Sarah D'Adamo leads programming and provides site support related to green space preservation and garden stewardship. Sarah grew up in Catonsville and then spent many years living and working abroad before returning to the area and claiming Baltimore City as her home in 2015. As part of her career in education, often working with international students, Sarah completed a PhD in Cultural Studies in 2022 that focused on higher education as social infrastructure in the US and Canada. This long-term interest in infrastructure extends into urban ecology, botany, local agriculture, mutual aid, and land-based history and rehabilitation. Since 2019, Sarah has been active in Baltimore's urban agriculture community as a core member of two green spaces preserved by Baltimore Green Space: Hidden Harvest Farm, in Greenmount West, and Ash Street Garden, in Hampden. You can often find Sarah in one of these gardens or at another of the city's farms, or walking in the city's forests, trails, and along the Jones Falls, where she is an avid birder.
About the Series
This series of workshops are meant to provide education/tips on identifying and attracting pollinators, as well as creating welcoming habitats that support them in your growing spaces.
Because this event is outdoors, we suggest that you wear close-toed shoes, sun protection, and weather-appropriate clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Be sure to bring a water bottle! There will be extra water, masks, hand sanitizer, sunscreen & bug spray on site.
Parking Information: Street parking available in the neighborhood
Restrooms: There is no restroom onsite
Other Notes: Paths are grass, and woodchips there is limited shade and seating on site, bring a chair if you need one!
