Azmi Hussin’s solo exhibition, “????,” marks a significant milestone in his artistic journey, reflecting his growth and exploration across multiple mediums. The title, derived from the word “??????????,” alludes to his beginnings as a caricaturist in public spaces, where he honed his skills in capturing the essence of his subjects with humor and precision. In Bahasa Malaysia, “????” means “?? ????” or “?? ??????,” aptly representing Azmi’s ongoing quest for his artistic identity.
As his first solo exhibition, “????” also functions as a mini-review, providing an insight into the diverse facets of Azmi’s creative journey. Refusing to be confined to a single style or medium, Azmi’s body of work encompasses a wide range of expressions, from his early caricature works that earned him recognition, to the beloved “?????? ?????” comic strips, coffee paintings, and poignant political drawings. Each body of work showcases diverse influences and techniques, representing a chapter in his artistic narrative and contributing to the distinctive voice he has developed today.
What unites Azmi’s varied works is his deep passion for storytelling.
