CARE First: a dog behavior clinic for canine professionals

We have all been there: No matter how good we are as trainers, at some point, we will meet a dog that challenges us a bit more than the rest. Typically, that's when we start looking for better techniques, more control, different tools; and we may even reach out to other trainers for advice or a vet behaviorist for a remedy.

Affective Dog Behavior offers a different way of living and working with dogs, as it fills in the blanks that are all too often overlooked. See, a dog's communication doesn't start with behaviros, body bosture, lip licks or growls, but with brain processes and observable changes so subtle that they tend to be missed - even by some of the most experienced trainers. And that's where Affective Dog Behavior comes in, to help you

• better understand how the nervous sysem processes extenal stimuli
• look beyond observable behaviors
• recognize and meet the dog's immediate needs without focusing on changing behaviors

This event will give 3 canine professionals the opportunity to receive hands-on coaching from the creator of ADB, while a small group of professionals is encouraged to audit.

To help you get the most out of this event, please make sure to bring your cellphone with enough battery to record as much as you want to, as well as a note pad, a pen and a list of questions you may ask between sessions.

Ideally, we will be able to adhere to specific time slots, but please understand that the final organization of sessions and time slots may be determined by your coach and subject to special circumstances. For that reason, it is important that you follow ADB Coaches instructions.

If you are interested in this event, you can participate and learn in one of two ways:

1. Human-dog team: Bring one dog for hands-on coaching before a group of canine professionals eager to learn with you. If this is what you want to do, please register now to reserve one of only 3 open spots. If you attend with a dog, please watch out for additional information sent to you by email from [email protected] (make sure to check your spam or junk folders). Note: for safety and liability reasons we can only accept 1 dog per participant, and no dogs with a bite history.
2. Learn by watching: Even if, for whatever reason, you cannot bring your dog, auditing 3 different coaching sessions in addition to chatting with your ADB Coaches over pizza offers a great learning opportunity.

Pizza lunch for all participants in both groups is included. So, please bring your appetite as well as a pen and paper to jot down whatever information you may want to hang on to.

The thing to know about Scott Stauffer is that he isn't a traditional trainer, he is a K9 Life Coach. As such, his focus is on helping you gain a deeper understanding of emotional connection between dog owner and dog. His approach helps you better understand and address a dog's emotional and physical needs when they arise. When needs are met, dogs feel heard, acknowledged and safe and are less likely to display intense and potentially scary behaviors.
