Albert D. Wright arrived at the Great Lake Region of Central Florida just 10 months after the first train departing from Astor had reached Fort Mason. He settled on 40 acres before his land became part of the Town of Eustis. A Civil War Veteran like many of his Central Florida neighbors, Captain Wright and his bride Jeannette, along with three sons, made a huge impact on 19th Century Florida. After riding in 1881 aboard the first of numerous Orange County trains, for example, in 1910 they registered the 1,709th automobile in the ENTIRE State of Florida.Veterans have been an important part of the story of Florida since it became a Territory of USA, and Albert D. Wright, a Lake County Medal of Honor Recipient, represents one of countless men and women deserving of a special day of remembrance. Albert, you could say, was especially deserving of a Remembrance Day.
